How much do YOU know about Saudi Arabia? This is also a regular posting on my blog but then I decided to add it as a separate page as well given that the whole emphasis on this blog is to increase ones knowledge and understanding about the Kingdom.
Okay; let’s have some fun and test your knowledge about the Kingdom. I’ve put some questions together about the Kingdom and purposely made them multiple choice. Don’t worry, the answers will be given as you finish each question. I hope that you will enjoy this “quiz.” When my spouse and I were living in the Washington, DC area we used it as an ice-breaker one night when we held an “Arabian Nights” party at our house. We decided to invite our mutual friends, our neighbors as well as various diplomatic friends. We got our guests to group in teams and work together on the questions and we had small gifts representative of Saudi Arabia for each team for their efforts as well. In addition we also introduced our guests who were not already familiar to traditional Saudi food, music and dance. We also encouraged all guests to come dressed in what they believed was representative of traditional Saudi dress.
We found that the party was not only a great ice-breaker for all of our guests to get acquainted but to enhance everyone’s knowledge of Saudi Arabia with a positive appreciation.
Okay, here goes Just click on the links below…get ready and most of all, have fun!

Hi, American Bedu. That was an interesting quiz. I’m delighted by the fact that I got most of them right (couldn’t resist bragging – sorry – lived in the Kingdom ’82 – ’91, then on and off till ’99), and I now know that the K of SA has 13 provinces.
And pray, why is it ‘delhi4cats’ ? ‘Esp when americanbedu.wordpress.com is still available?
Mummy Jaan — Mabrook! I’m pleased that you enjoyed the quiz and did well.
I hope that you will share some of your experiences and perspectives based on your own time in the Kingdom.
To answer your valid question, I am not a technocrat and instinctively put in delhi4cats which is another email address I use instead of americanbedu. I realized too late what I had done and could not change the url. c’est la vie. At least it all still works out. And in case you were wondering on why I am referred to as “American Bedu” I hope you will read the page entitled “Who is American Bedu?” where I answered that query.
Best Regards – Carol
A friend of mine told me about your blog not to long ago, and I enjoy it because it is very informative. This quiz is a perfect example of that and I must admit I did not know most of the answers. So thank you for the lesson!!
Very creative….
Dalioness – Welcome and thank you for your comments! Please do not hesitate to comment more and give suggestions!
Best Regards,
Carol
I live in Kuwait(was born and brought up here) and hence Saudi Arabia is not foreign to me
So how did you do on the quiz then, Joel?
Hi, Carol. Yes, I read the page on the reason behind ‘American Bedu’. It’s a great nickname!
I do mean to write about my life in the ‘Kingdom’, after all I spent a good chunk of my childhood and teen years there. I was actually delighted to come across a few ‘Saudi’ blogs earlier this year. I left KSA long before internet was widely available, so it has been interesting to read about the changes that have taken place since.
I’m always happy to learn about more Saudi bloggers and make every effort to give them credit and promote them via my blog roll. If you are aware of others please do let me know.
And look forward to hearing about your life in the Kingdom. Where are you now?
Regards,
Carol
kind of okay, but didn’t crosscheck with the scores!
Joel: Fair enough! Glad to see you back and look forward to your comments on other posts too.
I got 13 right, probably would have had a few less if not for the multiple choice format.
That’s not bad! Congratulations and hope you enjoyed.
Nice work from you
I got 17 right.
Thank you! It was a pleasure to put it together.
I got 16, but I’ve been learning a lot lately.
Good for you Aafke!
i did a 99% approx… thanks to the SAC (saudi arabian culture) subject which I had at school; of course not forgetting the larger part of life I spent here too.
And carol, now u have a reader from the southern-most province too .. guess?
Ruman,
I would guess you are coming in from either Najran or Jizan…am I correct?
And congrats on your score – that’s pretty good!
Thanks …
Yupz, its Jizan … They would call it Yemen in Riyadh …
Ruman,
You must share some details and thoughts about life in Jizan since a lot of us may not get the opportunity to go there!
Thank the Lord for that
.. its not a place that u many ppl look forward to .. but for me its been like home, where I grew up as a child .. I am catching a flite this evening for the weekend.
I will come up with something and send it over to your email, and u can put it up as a post .. it wudnt be proper to keep going on in the comments section. Cool?
Ruman,
I do like that idea. Once I receive your email I’ll review and maybe even ask a few other questions and make it into a nice post where we can enlighten readers (and yours truly) on the hidden treasures of Jizan!
Regards,
Carol
Great!
Hey, I just found your blog and it’s a most interesting subject!
When I was a child, my father was employed by the US military-industrial complex and we lived in Dahran. I wish I’d been able to live there longer but my father was laid off by his company. I feel deprived of a cultural education (though I probably received more in four sheltered years than most Americans will ever get in their lives!)
At any rate, I look forward to reading your future posts and am especially interested in your lifestyle, being a Western woman voluntarily living in a place where women face restrictions on activities that Americans take for granted: driving, choice of dress, property ownership, etc.
VoteNader,
Welcome and glad you are enjoying!
Regards,
Carol
hi. thanks for this. really enjoyed the ‘quiz’. i got 18 answers correct. btw, i had been in saudi for 5 years. good luck!
p.s: the first 10 questions’ numbers seem to display incorrectly?
Deepdowne,
Welcome to the blog and glad you enjoyed!
you’re right…for some reason the first 10 questions’ numbers are not displaying correctly. I’m sorry for that.
Fun. I did very well on this, I suppose because I live next door.
Good quiz!
Good quiz .. flunked five.
Had problem with the serial numbers: 1 – 10 all numbered 1.
The answers too have some mix up: most have letters (a, b etc) while others gave them verbatim. Perhaps indicating both would be better. At least now I know the number of regions and their names. Except for those with english names.
Great idea and keep it up.
Glad you enjoyed Muktar and my apologies for any confusion. Some numbers and bullet style print got jumbled when uploaded as a page so I need to figure out how to clean it up.
HaHa…I loved it!
Thanks alot for all of them.
waiting for the next one…
That’s great HishMaj…and stay tuned…December is not really that far away!
Oh my soul – no wonder I don’t cope in Saudi – I only have one correct answer and that was a lucky shot….!
Don’t worry Alta…just keep taking all the quizzes and have fun as you learn more and more trivia about KSA!!
thanks for this . I am Saudi and i really would like tomake others understand better about my country keep on .Thanks again
