Saudi student drowns after saving American child

With all the recent debates and criticisms to and fro I think we should never forget we are all humans. We share the same planet, we share the same dreams, and we share the human capacity for sacrifice.

This article in Arab news describes how a Saudi student lost his life.  Mashari Abdul Mohsen Al-Siraihi drowned in Ohio while trying to save his friend, George Rairesheid III.
Abdul did manage to save the son, Micheal, brought him to shore and then went back for the father, but both men perished.

It is so sad that they didn’t make it.
Mashari Abdul Mohsen Al-Siraihiwas flown back to Jeddah and buried there amongst a large crowd of mourners.

Maybe we should look more at people like these when thinking of other countries and other nationalities. Maybe we should keep in the forefront of our thoughts, that we really are all family on one great planet.

Still, it is sad when lives are lost and if that story can help his family feel better about his death then that is good. Either way, the story does prove that Saudis and Muslim DO love others of different race, creeds and colors since it was his American girlfriend’s family he was with. ;-)

I would like to add my AMEN to all the rest and to the beautiful statement by Carol.

Remarkable as the noble action of Mashari Abdul Mohsen Al-Siraihi may sound, it is also remarkable to note that THANKFULLY such noble actions do happen in the US and around the world (and the communities therein), on a pretty consistent basis.
Such as complete strangers risking their own lives to save other lives, even at the pain of death.

May Allah swt grant Mashari Abdul Mohsen Al-Siraihi
the Shaheed/Martyr the entrance to Janat-ul-Firdous and give his family the strength to bear his untimely loss, in the cause of Allah swt. I understand that shaheed or martyrs who sacrifice their lives in the GOOD cause of Allah swt are granted instant entrance to paradise!

  7. Lynn..

thanks for the alternative story which I tend to believe considering it is a local paper…but you are quite right it is sad when any life is lost.

  8. TRIPLE AMEN

  9. People are individuals not nations or religions, I think we forget that.

  10. In memory of Mashari Abdul Mohsen Al-Siraihi
A true and faithful man who gave his life saving a person on April 27, 2011 in this location.
    God Alone Understands.

Mashari Abdul Mohsen Al-Siraihi did celebrate Prophet Muhammad’s birthday before he passes.

It is unusual for a Saudi to become a hero!

  11. Mishari Abdul Mohsen Surayhi:
To God we belong, to God we return!

  12. funny story about Americans >
A man is taking a walk in Central park in New York. Suddenly he sees a little girl being attacked by a pit bull dog . He runs over and starts fighting with the dog. He succeeds in killing the dog and saving the girl’s life. A policeman who was watching the scene walks over and says: “You are a hero, tomorrow you can read it in all the newspapers: “Brave New Yorker saves the life of little girl” The man says: – “But I am not a New Yorker!” “Oh ,then it will say in newspapers in the morning: ‘Brave American saves life of little girl'” – the policeman answers. “But I am not an American!” – says the man. “Oh, what are you then? ” The man says: – “I am a Saudi !” The next day the newspapers says: “Islamic extremist kills innocent American dog.>>> lol
