Time to Stock Up in Saudi Arabia

thanksgiving-mealThis is the time of the year one will start to see the Pumpkin pie filling, cranberries (both fresh and canned), big frozen Butterball Turkeys, duck AND marshmellow crème in the grocery stores in Saudi Arabia.  I do most of my shopping at Tamimi and have found that near the end of October is when the stores start to stock up on items desired by expats who do celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

Now my recommendation from experience is that if any of the items mentioned are items that you especially enjoy, stock up while supplies last.  In fact I have become known as the one who buys up all of the marshmellow cream in Riyadh as I like to use it with many desserts that I make.

And for those of you newer to the blog, you may also enjoy this post about other things that are hard to find in Saudi Arabia.

  1. I guess the food stores only get one big delivery and then – that’s all folks.

  2. pretty much so Jerry!

  3. My assumption is that Saudi’s don’t normally eat turkey, duck, pumpkins pies etc. So, where do they get the stuff they sell? Do they sell American brands of pie filling, cranberry sauce? Inquiring minds want to know!

  4. Hi Jerry,

Actually my husband and his family enjoy turkey very much! Fortunately the local Safeway “Tamimi” will pretty routinely have frozen turkey, turkey breast and duck which has been imported from USA. Pumpkin pie filling seems to be more seasonal along with fresh and canned cranberries. However other fillings like apple, peach, cherry and others are usually readily available. And of course there are also so many other goodies that are in Saudi which are difficult or impossible to find in the USA. I so wish there were spice markets in the US similar to the ones in Saudi!

  5. All the marshmellow cream?????
