This is a web site that may be of interest to expats not only in Saudi Arabia but anywhere in the world. It is nationphone.com and offers a variety of communication services. This site offers internet telephony, Net2Phone and offers 4 cents a minute for calls outside of Saudi Arabia. For many expats in Saudi Arabia that can be a very attractive capability.
And in addition which was what captured my interest to this particular site and seems to set it apart from other internet telephony sites is that it also offers American television channels across the internet. Yes, you can get TV from your own country, or any country you choose! This affords an expat the opportunity to keep in touch with his or her own country.
I have not yet subscribed to this particular website but their web site does a good job of marketing their services and capturing attention. Communications to ones home as well as keeping in touch with ones home country via television programs and news is always important. Therefore I like to keep apprised of what opportunities are out there and particularly as there can remain challenges in Saudi Arabia with communication and viewing options.

How does this compare to Skype services in KSA? All my foreign friends here use skype. Also, most US TV channels now show their shows for free on their websites, if not simulcast, as soon as the show has finished airing. Another good free TV site is hulu.com
Will recommend my friends to check this out.
hulu says it doesnt allow viewing outside the US…all sites I have found that show US programs say the same thing…if anyone knows of one that actually does let you view their content from over here in the Middle East I would love to know about it.
I used Net2phone in Hong Kong. It was great for international calls, especially or including 1-800 numbers which are free–as if one were calling from the US. Friends now favour Skype for family calls.
For international calls, I heard about rebtel; some of my friends are using it and apparently the quality is better than skype. I haven’t tried it yet… but here is the link. The prices are pretty interesting.

for myself, I use googletalk which is available FREE through google and allows me to have great voice/video chats from Riyadh with my family (and new grandbaby!) in the states.
Has anyone tried the TV portion of it? I’m really interested as I’ll be relocating to Saudi this summer and would be very excited if this works. It seems to me this might be something that is filtered by the Saudi firewall.

Update for those who are interested in the TV portion. It appears that in order to set it up you need to have a US address for the initial set up. So if you maintain a US postal address it can probably be done.
That is my understanding San Diego reader. the individual who passed me the info did mention this was a great service if you maintained a US address.
