A comment for Nadar:

I appreciate the information on the review at Al Arabiya. Even Google could not find it!, and I had been totally unaware of it for almost a year, but based on your info, went to their website, and have now posted a link to it on my own.

On page 196 of my book, I mentioned the area just north of Dewadmi being similar to Abu Kaab. It was Abdullah Al Sadhan who told us about it, as we were considering doing a show involving "Saudi tourism", and since Abu Kaab was so difficult to reach, he was proposing to substitute the Dewadmi area. From the book you know that we did not reach that area that day, due to the mutawaa. Still we were determined to see it, and in late April, 2003, a Danish couple (he is still working at KFSH!) and my wife and I drove all the way to Dewadmi and back in the same day ... we had a delightful lunch among the monoliths. It was our very final trip to the Saudi desert... fortunately we are able to explore the wonderful deserts and forests of the American south west, still camping, and likewise, if you should make it this way, I'd be happy to show you some of it.

Well done, my friend... and I find that I can agree with much of what John has to say. We are all brothers and sisters, regardless of ancestry or skin tone, and we should certainly love one another as we are commanded to do.
So, I'd like to come to Saudi and build a Christian church to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with my brothers and sisters there. How would I go about doing that?

Yes, America needs to change. But we certainly aren't alone, are we... and it won't be politicians (at any level) that will get any of us where we need to be. Perhaps we need a wake up call, on both sides of the "river."

This is one of the most enlightening posts I've read anywhere. I encourage readers to reread it at least three times; there's too much "meat" to digest in an initial reading.

I especially appreciate Mr. Jones' positive attitude toward Saudi Arabia, and his dedication to bringing together the more constructive aspects of East and West. His ideas are borne not of romantic infatuation (as befalls some expats when they first arrive) but of a combination of knowledge, experience, and intellectual honesty.

I've read the book, and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in the subject. It is especially delightful for those of us who lived in the Kingdom during the years John lived there, or who worked at KFSH.

Thanks, Carol, and thanks, John.
