It’s great news people have decided it’s time we look at our similarities instead of differences! We’ll just have to put in the effort and never give up! I appreciate whatever measures are taken for creating understanding and excuse my previous post, it was one of those gloomy days where nothing would look right! Sometimes my impatience gets to me and I cannot look but to the ultimate. People with power don’t have it all good, they’re not exactly like me sitting in my living room trying to change the world. They do the best they can with what they have and I wish them the best. Thanks for writing and clearing things!

As the world becomes a smaller place thanks to modern day technology, we are able to see one another’s differences and sadly that is also what the media likes to capitalize on. Holding such a conference and with the intent of highlighting and maximizing on our similarities is a good thing. Of course, continued follow up will be critical to the success of such initiatives. I wholeheartedly believe in King Abdullah’s sincerity and that he is no way out to do this for the sake of enhancing his reputation. In this regard, he is undoubtedly sincere. It was very evident on his face throughout the Madrid dialogue.

It’s interesting how progress comes about: painfully slow. But I guess we can’t complain much. I don’t know where such dialogues lead, are they a one day affair, where people get together, speak hollow words, eat, are merry and then go home and forget, or does awareness makes itself a regular guest?

I ask because we’ve been living on earth for quite some time now. What is it exactly that prevented people from wanting to get to know the other and then to find out that the other is just like the self, a being that breathes and laughs and cries. One that equally bleeds.
I also can’t stop scratching my head (ouch) why don’t people start with improving their own selves first? I ask because in the state of Saudi sunnis and shias couldn’t be any further away from each other and they are members of the same religion, now just imagine the divide between muslims and the other Abrahamic faiths.

So when I see something like this, I can’t help but wonder is this a superficial stunt for the enhancement of one’s reputation or is it a genuine affair for raising awareness and getting us closer to the path of understanding?

Hi Viking Daughter! With a lot of special programs on KSA 2 there usually is not much advance lead time.

I will have a post forthcoming about the World Conference on Dialogue but to answer your question, this specific event will take place every two years. In the interim there will be other related conferences and symposiums to maintain momentum.

Oh, check my blog I posted a loving article on King Abdullah and a tear jerker story on King Abdullah being blessed in prayer by an American Rabbi.

I was so moved.

I didn’t expect much on dialogue this first time, I felt just having them all together was amazing!!

I do feel the goals are great, and next year will be much better. There will be a next year, won’t there?

BTW, KSA: Saudi 2 is much better than KTV 2. You have some really upbeat shows, and commentators.
