I found the photo's quite fascinating! Even the stone seems to ahve the same colour as in Petra. How exciting: there's more to dig up!

I am told that Maida'n Salah and Petra (in Jordan) have much in common and were both homes of the Nabateean people. Some Saudis who have been to both places tell me that Maida'n Salah actually is a wider spread area with more to see and much more yet to be excavated.

I would endorse anyone taking an official tourism trip to the Kingdom. I know I am very much looking forward to additional trips to other places I've yet to see.

I am just in awe of the beauty! I have always wanted to visit Saudi Arabia!I feel the urge to just buy a ticket for next week and just go! (that would be impossible however...lol)

I find its ancient history so amazing...I have taken a class on middle eastern history, however much of the focus was on the Levant...we did not go in depth about the history of the gulf...which I suppose is quite common.

I really hope the tourism industry in Saudi really takes off. It sounded like it was an excellent tour. I love your idea too about the Bedouin tent in the other post! It is my hope that they keep it as traditional and as authentic as possible (with the comfort of course) and not water it down to suit the taste of the guest...because more than likely...if you are willing to take a trip to Maida’n Salah..you probably want a true authentic experience!
I wish I was there!

I post six non-committal words and you're glad of the feedback? I bet that's one of these diplomatic euphemisms.
What makes you think I only go for the controversial subjects? As if I like to start a row?!? :?

I think it's great that these sites are protected,(and no muttawa!) (Defenitely worth a mention in the Sun,Sand and Suffering brochure)
And although I knew the Nabateans were pretty spread out, I had no idea they lived so far south. The photo's you posted were awsome, I had a look at all of them.
I particularly liked the architecture of course. but the camels were also great! And the locomotive.

It seems you were in good, uncomplaining company. The bus didn't look that bad? A bit of suffering is good for you; it enhances the sense of adventure!

Hi Jewaira,

That's a good question and I am not sure. However I can say that some of the stretches of roadway during the 6 hour trip is pretty desolate.

Really the only drawback of the entire trip was the type of Coaster that was provided. If we had had a larger bus (maybe similar to the Saptco buses) then it would have been quite comfortable. But you're right; we were so lucky to have an extraordinary good natured group and made the best of the entire time!
