After 260 shows, the popular series which shows during the month of each Ramadan, Tash ma Tash, is taking a hiatus. The 10 January edition of Al Hayat newspaper covered this disturbing information. It was not clear whether this decision was made solely by the Director of Tash ma Tash or if all the concerned actors agreed. However the reason provided for this hiatus was stated that a break was needed to basically recharge the batteries and prepare all fresh material. In its place for Ramadan 2008 will be a new series, Nas ya Nas (People and People) which will feature the same actors as in Tash ma Tash. No further reasons were given for the decision to take a hiatus and the Director was quoted as saying Tash ma Tash would return on the air in 2009.
I, for one, am saddened by this news. Ever since discovering Tash ma Tash four years ago I have been a regular and avid fan each Ramadan to see what issue or event would be covered next on the show. Although a comedy, Tash ma Tash does an excellent job of portraying the serious issues, changes and life of the Kingdom. I am confident when I write that Tash ma Tash is likely the most widely watched and popular show during Ramadan.
For an earlier post during which I refered to Tash ma Tash please see:

That is unfortunate. I have been watching the show now for about five years and always enjoyed it. Some episodes have gotten them in hot water and I hope this wasnt the reason for the break.
Anyway, I’ll have to wait for Nas ya Nas to see if it measures up.
I feel the same way and really do wonder why a break after it has been going on for so long. To me, the article fell short of a full explanation. I think this past year was one of their finest and touched on some very sensitive issues as well…particularly the episode on the courts and how different judges can rule depending on how they see a case. That episode was probably a risk-taker in some regards given the content.
The story of the girl who ends up in the desert with a strange man reminds me very much of the story of A’ischa when she was left behind in the desert. I haven’t seen it, only read about it, but it didn’t seem a funny story at all to me, very scary and sad.
I used to love watching this show. Hilarious and at the same time promotes a social consciousness. I had it translated of course…but yes, very good show.
My suggestion is that if there is going to be a one-year hiatus, then the 2008 season should have reruns which play the “Best of Tash ma Tash.”
Aafke – The story of Ayesha in the desert has a much better ending though than the story which was presented on Tash ma Tash.
Marianna – It’s amazing how a show like Tash ma Tash has inspired me in improving my arabic! Even when my husband was not around to translate I would still watch it and found to my surprise that I was able to follow a lot of it on my own!
Is it possible to watch it in the US?
Valerie – yes, if you are receiving the arabic channels.
What a shame.
Thanks for your comment, extension5151 and welcome.
I cannot imagine anyone on hearing this news jumping up and down shouting “hooray…”
Nice tv show…..We ar enjoy watcing Drama serial “Tash Ma Tash”..it”s a live comedy. I hpoe we ar watching every ramadhan…..This drama serial…
From what I understand Sawpan, this Ramadan you may see Tash ma Tash reruns while enjoying the new premier Nas y Nas. I guess we’ll know for sure in about 2 more months!
I was sadened to hear about it..
I was told about this by one of my friends (an actress on the Gulf Soap Oprahs we watch during Ramadhan)… So I guess I will sit here and hope that their new series is as good as 6ash ma 6ash enshallah..
Otherwise… Ramadhan in the Kingdom will never be the same! (Allay yster- I know Ramadhan shouldn’t even be about these tv shows… may God forgive me)
At least all the earlier versions of Tash ma Tash are available now on DVD
Go forward, tanks for your shows, got bless you
Is there any way to get TMT on cable in the U.S.?
so sad me and my family watch this show for a long time.. we look foward to see it next ramadan…
Mostahel = reruns of Tash ma Tash are still showing. And I hope that you are also able to catch the new program that is airing now. I apologize that I cannot recall the name… it is not nas y nas as initially announced. But it is the same favorite actors and instead of playing different roles and different episodes each night, it is a continuing story. I don’t want to give it all away but it is indeed very entertaining and each night the episode ends with the viewer impatiently wanting more!!
[...] show and most widely followed. Tash ma Tash actually took a break and did not have any new shows last Ramadan. However Ramadan 2007, Tash ma Tash had a number of spellbinding and thought-provoking shows. [...]
