Most individuals in the Kingdom rely on satellite tv which will allow one to have quite a variety of various programs to choose from.  My husband and I do have a few “local” favorites that we enjoy viewing. One is a sitcom which is based on a true story and called “Rayya and “S’kina.”  Rayya and S’kina are two sisters.  The sitcom is about their family and their lives.  They are Egyptian and their story takes place in Egypt many years ago.  The show evolves around the entire family but special emphasis and focus is on these two sisters.  They lived vicariously and sadly, always on the outside of the law.  They were a poor family and rather than settle for an honest day work for an honest wage, they engaged in various schemes which continually moved closer and closer to the outer limits.  Finally culminating where they would target women who were known to wear various pieces of gold jewelry.  But rather than simply steal the gold from the women, they would invite the women to their home, drug them, kill them and then steal their gold.  The womens bodies were buried by Rayya, S’kina and other family members under the floor of their house.  Usually in the same room in which they were murdered.  (houses in those times usually had dirt floors)  It is a fast moving show and while naturally some scenes are probably over-exaggerated it still is amazing to watch knowing that it depicts true events.Another show we enjoy is the arabic version of “Who Wants to be a Millionaire.”  It asks good thought-provoking questions covering history, current events, trivia and also will have some questions about different prophets and poets.  I like the choices of news stations here.  We can receive broadcasts from the entire Arab/gulf region which provide a good diversity and differing perspectives.  Sadly I think that Al-Jazeerah in English provides a softer version of news and events than the arabic version.Watching and listening to the arabic channels is also an excellent mechanism to reinforce ones arabic.
