It is not that you and your Saudi could not have an American marriage (ie, a civil marriage) or an Islamic marriage but government approval is required if the two of you wished to live or visit KSA. However if he is a student and on a government scholarship, if he married a foreigner, his scholarship could get revoked. There are requirements Saudi students have to respond to as a scholarship student.

It is true and it is very difficult because the Saudi government makes women like me feel very disrespected. I am a Christian American and I have enjoyed freedom my whole life and cannot understand why these regulations are in place. I love this man very much and he is one of the very RARE gems that have come from Saudi Arabia, and I am so lucky to have him.

I do wonder, however, what the likelyhood is of the government finding out about a simple american marriage here???
