New Initiatives Taken by the Saudi Post
Current mood: contemplative
Category: Travel and Places
Most of us take mailboxes and postal services for granted. But here in Saudi Arabia, the postal service is truly more like an unreliable and undedicated pony express. Most people, if they need to send a letter, document or package, rather than rely on the postal services, will instead use many of the delivery services and courier services which abound throughout the Kingdom. Part of the problem with the Saudi post in general is the fact that very few residential streets have street signs and even fewer villas will have house numbers. Compounding this challenge has also been a lack of mailbox in which to place any mail that may be delivered. In spite of these challenges, the Saudi post does exist and one can alledgedly send and receive mail through the Saudi post. The majority of individuals with whom I have spoken have nothing but criticism on the part of the Saudi post and would not think of using its services.Recently the Saudi post has begun installing honest to goodness mail boxes on some homes. These boxes are large and the street address is even imprinted on the box (in arabic). One friend of ours found that a mailbox was installed on the exterior wall of his villa so he inquired of the Saudi post when could he start receiving mail. To his surprise he was advised that if he wished to send and receive mail in the box that was provided, he must subscribe to their services at a cost of $700 Saudi riyals per year (about $200 US dollars). hmmm…having to pay to use a box provided by a service that has been notoriously unreliable…I don’t think so!If you wish to comment on this posting and not a myspace member, send me an email. Site the subject which I gave for this posting and then your comment so I will post it to the appropriate blog posting. Also it helps to advise how you wish to be attributed such as anonymous or some other name…:namespace prefix = o ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” />I will state upfront that if a comment is inappropriate I would not post it. I’m pretty open and an example of what I mean by inappropriate is that at one time someone posted links to anti-american videos and the like. My blog is not for anti-America or anti-Saudi bashing. Yes; there are aspects to each country or society one may not like but if it is going to be discussed, it is going to be in an adult and constructive manner!so, my email address for your comments to be uploaded is: american_bedu(at)yahoo(dot)com 12:27 AM - 0 Comments – 0 Kudos – Add Comment – Edit - Remove
