The health conscious will be even that much more aware of what and how they eat when living in the Kingdom!  Saudi Arabia has many delicious dishes but at the same time, a lot of the traditional dishes are prepared with either heavier amounts of oil being used or many dishes (particular vegetable dishes) being deep-fried.  This is also coupled with traditional dinner times being much later than one what is accustomed to in at least the United States.  Many Saudis in my acquaintance will not have their final meal until after 11pm (or much later).Sadly Saudi Arabia does have a higher concentration of individuals with diabetes, high cholestrol and heart problems.  (The US is also increasing in this regard too with lifestyle trends.)  These problems are compounded by a culture which does not make it easy to live an active lifestyle in a traditional Saudi environment.  Fitness centers and gyms are plentiful for men.  There are fewer options for women.  (The primary exceptions are if one lives on a western compound where most compounds are equipped with fitness centers available to residents.)  Fitness centers are available for women but unlike the US, membership tends to be more costly and there is less flexibility in the hours of operation.  Setting up and equipping a home gym is popular here among those who are the most health conscious.  Fortunately there are a large number of stores which sell fitness equipment. There are also a selection (presently limited) of health and nutrition stores.  Ones which I am aware include GNC; Tutti Naturelle; and The Diet Center.  Many hospitals will also have a fitness and consultation center. The Diet Center offers nutrition weight loss programs similar to that of Jenny Craig where fresh meals with the right combination of vitamins, carbs and calories will be delivered daily to your door.  I am told that this is a great but again, expensive, program.  2:58 AM - 0 Comments0 KudosAdd CommentEdit - Remove
